DropBox è  stato uno dei primi ad offrire spazio nel cloud gratuitamente, e con una modalità di accesso di semplicità spaventosa. Le caratteristiche di Dropbox che ne hanno decretato il successo sono: affidabilità, ottima integrazione con molti Sistemi Operativi (Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS), spazio gratuito per tutti  2 Gigabyte. Una quota gratuita facilmente ampliabile fino a 18 GB, rispondendo a qualche domanda, collegando gli account facebook e twitter e invitando qualche amico ad aderire.
